Industry Visits

Join us on Friday, May 8th, for an opportunity to explore innovative factories and logistics centres in and around Bolzano and gain first-hand insights into diverse industrial sectors.

Alpitronic – leading producer of EV charging systems

Alpitronic is a high-tech company based in Bolzano with subsidiaries in Munich (Germany), Bergamo and Bologna (Italy), Charlotte (USA) and Milton Keynes (UK), founded in 2009. Since 2017 the company is a pioneer in the development and production of high-power electronic systems, with a strong focus on DC fast-charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs). The signature Hypercharger product line has electrified Europe with reliable, compact, and efficient solutions wrapped in Italian design. Alpitronic is market leader in Europe with more than 100.000 charging ports installed. The current portfolio includes DC fast chargers in the power range of 50 kW to 1,000 kW. The visit will be at the production facilities in Bolzano.

Würth Italia – one of the most modern logistic centres

Würth is one of Europe’s leading suppliers of assembly and fastening materials. Würth Italia’s new logistics centre in Egna-Neumarkt (25km south from Bolzano) —the Zero Impact Logistics Hub—is designed as a high-performance, highly automated distribution platform that combines Industry 4.0 intralogistics with near-zero-impact building systems. The site is engineered for energy self-sufficiency using geothermal + photovoltaic systems, aiming for “zero impact” for heating/cooling-related emissions. The centre of the hub is a modern shuttle based automated storage and retrieval system with 160,000 locations and 300 shuttles in a goods-to-person concept. Würth Italia integrates robotic decanting, palletizing/depalletizing, and automated picking stations, coordinated through modern warehouse software and AI technology.

The tours are scheduled for 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday 8th May (excluding transfer time in charter buses). During the registration process please select the tour if interested.

Lab Visits

During the lab visit of the engineering facilities of the Free University of Bolzano at NOI Techpark in Bolzano, participants will gain exclusive insights into cutting-edge research and innovation. The tour includes the Smart Mini Factory, a state-of-the-art Industry 4.0 learning factory focused on automation, robotics, and digital manufacturing. Visitors will also explore the Building Physics Labs, where energy efficiency, indoor climate, and sustainable construction technologies are studied and tested. The program continues with the Agroforestry Labs, dedicated to research on autonomous and semi-autonomous robotic systems for agriculture and forestry applications as well as safety and ergonomics of agricultural machinery. The Fraunhofer Italia ARENA at NOI Techpark is a cutting-edge research and demonstration space focusing on Building Information Modeling (BIM) and construction robotics. It serves as a living lab where digital planning, simulation, and automation solutions are developed and tested to optimize construction processes. A highlight of the visit is the Terra X-Cube of EURAC, a unique climate simulator capable of recreating the most extreme environmental conditions for testing materials, plants, and systems under controlled scenarios. Together, these labs offer a comprehensive look at interdisciplinary engineering research and its application to real-world sustainability challenges.
